Being diabetic doesn’t mean you have to forget all the festivities on every occasion especially on your special day. You don’t have to miss your party and the usual food served on that day.
Apart from the birthday cake, the standard favourites are hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, and ice cream. But instead of avoiding all of them at the party, you can just reduce the serving size and make minor adjustments to lessen fats, calories, and carbohydrates per person.
Menu Number 1:
HAMBURGERS: Use 90-95 % lean ground beef paired with low-fat cheese slices. You can also skip the cheese and use soup mix and dry onion instead to flavour.
Menu Number 2:
HOTDOGS: Crash out the “hotdogs in bun” and serve them in a sugar-free spaghettis sauce. Add onions and sweet peppers. Hotdogs should be sliced in 1” pieces. Keep warm in a pot with vegetable. And serve them with toothpicks.
Menu Number 3:
ICE CREAM: We know that most ice creams contain fat calories and high sugar. Check the nutrition label before buying one or better yet, choose low-fat frozen yogurt. Never assume that the good choice is a sugar-free ice cream. You must double-check the label for its nutrition contents. Some of these are not better than the usual ice creams. You may opt for fudge bars, sugar free popsicles, and 100 % fresh fruit bars as alternatives.
Fresh fruit bars contain low carbs and sugar which qualify for free food. Check the label and go for varieties under 5mg per serving.
