The Other Side of Dark Chocolate

Posted on

Amazingly good news for all you choco-holics (chocolate addicts)! German researchers revealed that chocolate may be good for the health. The study was made extensively for a period of eight years where they found out that chocolate is good for the heart.  The research team said that chocolate is not as bad as we think and that it may even decrease the risk of stroke and any heart diseases.

According to the study the healthiest kind to eat are ‘dark chocolates’.  Eating dark chocolate lowers high blood pressure because of the potent antioxidant called ‘flavonols’. Flavonols can gobble free radical that’s why it can reduce blood pressure.  These flavonols are found in cocoa beans. Dark chocolate has more cocoa than milk thus it makes dark chocolate the healthiest kind to eat.

It is not a license though to go crazy and go on chocolate binge. First, it must be eaten purely dark chocolate. Meaning it must be eaten pure—no milk, due to the fact that milk interfes the absorption of antioxidants and negates the potential health benefits. Second thing, eating too much will likely result to weight gain and so there should be balance in the intake of extra calories by eating less of other things.  Third, consider your age and your health condition especially if you have already mild high blood pressure. There is a need of prior consultation of your doctor before you’ll try to medicate heart illness by eating chocolate.

So never forget to purchase or order chocolate: say “dark, please” and do not forget to remember the words “moderate eating”.
